How to Create a Large Abstract Painting : Abstract Painting Supplies

DAVID CLEMEN: Hi. I’m David Clemen on behalf
of Expert Village, and today, we’re going to do an abstract painting on a larger scale
on a piece of birch wood. Today, like I’ve mentioned before, we’re going to use this
large piece of birch wood which is actually sanded. You can get this at pretty much any
hardware or wood store in your area. This has been cut by the store. I just gave them
a certain dimension. I believe this is like 18 x 5 feet. I have artist tape here, which
I’ll use. I have my favorite tool which is a squeegee, and you can get this at a sign
shop. This is actually used to apply vinyl to glass or vehicles and the things like that.
So, this is used–it’s basically a squeegee. But if you can’t find one of these, an old
credit card or library card or an old 2 x 5 card, 2 x 4 card that you might be willing
to sacrifice for your artistic endeavors, will work just fine, any old credit card or
bank card or anything like that. I’ve got three tubes of acrylic paint. I’ve got, well,
obviously, a large table to work on because this is larger piece of wood. I’ve got various
paint brushes that I’ll use. I’ve got a water caddy. And you can also keep paper towels
around because you get all the paint on here so if you spill, you can easily wipe it up
and acrylic paints are water based. So, these are the supplies we’re going to use and we
will see in the next segment.
