RedLine Contemporary Art Studio Focuses On Afro-Futurism Exhibit

PLUS, THERE WILL BE SIGNIFICANT SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS THE NEXT FEW DAYS, AND THE NEXT FORECAST ON THAT IS COMING UP IN A FEW MINUTES. IF YOU WILL BE STAYING IN TOWN, WHY NOT ENJOY THE ARTS. AN ART STUDIO IN DENVER/POINTS NEIGHBORHOOD IS HONORING BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH ITS LATEST EXHIBIT. WE INTRODUCED YOU TO SOME OF THE ARTISTS LAST YEAR, AND YOU MAY HAVE SEEN THEIR WORK IN THE WINDOWS OF THE BEAUTIFUL SMITHSONIAN HOTEL. TORI MASON HAD THE STORY AT THE REDLINE CONTEMPORARY ART STUDIO, TORI, SOME OF THESE ARTISTS HAVE NOT ALWAYS HAD A STUDIO TO WORK IN. Reporter: SOME OF THESE ARTISTS THAT REDLINE DID NOT EVEN HAVE A HOME, LET ALONE A STUDIO TO CREATE HIM. RIGHT NOW, WE ARE AT THEIR AFRO FUTURISM EXHIBIT, PEOPLE ARE ALREADY STARTING TO FILE IN, THIS IS IMPORTANT. ALL OF THE ART YOU SEE ON THESE WALLS HERE, THE MONEY GOES DIRECTLY BACK TO THE ARTISTS. IT HAS EVEN HELPED SOME ARTISTS GET A HOME OF THEIR OWN. Reporter: UNCONVENTIONAL AND UNINHIBITED. WANTING YOUNG’S ART IS A MIRROR. BUT IT’S REFLECTION LIVES HER YOUNGER SELF. AN ARTIST ON THE STREET. I WAS WALKING FROM CITY TO CITY WITH MY BACKPACK AND A NOTEPAD AND IF YOU PENS AND I BEGAN TO TEACH MYSELF HOW TO DRAW. Reporter: THE INSTALLATION SHE CREATES NOW COULD NOT FIT IN THAT BACKPACK, BUT HER TINIEST WORK IS A REMINDER OF WHERE HER LIFE CHANGED FOREVER. DESPITE BEING IN THE SHELTER, I DID NOT KNOW WHERE I WOULD PUT MY ART SO A LOT OF TIMES IT WOULD BE SMALL. Reporter: HER TALENT WAS BIG ENOUGH TO EARN THE ATTENTION OF A CURATOR AT THE SHELTERS ART PROGRAM. HE SUGGESTED SHE GO TO REDLINE POINT IT’S LIFE-CHANGING. Reporter: JC PETRELLA SEES LIVES CHANGE EVERY DAY. SOME OF OUR ARTISTS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED HOMELESSNESS HAVE ACTUALLY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET A FREE SCHOLARSHIP. Reporter: BUT, A COLLEGE DEGREE IS NOT THE ONLY PAPER THAT HAS GIVEN REDLINE CREATIVE’S BETTER LIVES. QUITE A FEW ARTISTS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BE ABLE TO MAKE ENOUGH MONEY TO GET THEMSELVES OFF THE STREET SELLING THE ARTWORK. I CURRENTLY HAVE FIVE INSTALLATIONS UP RIGHT NOW, WITH ART. Reporter: HER LATEST IS IN REDLINE’S AFRO FUTURISM EXHIBIT, ALONG WITH THE MURALS OF OTHER ARTISTS, ALL WITH REFLECTIONS, JUST LIKE WARNINGS. IT’S A GOOD DAY. Reporter: SORRY IT’S A LITTLE HARD TO HEAR IN HERE, THE ARCHER HAS A DJ. SHE USED TO ONLY DRAW WITH GEL PENS, NOW AT THE EXHIBIT, SHE HAS THIS DIGITAL FUTURE, AND IT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING SIMILAR TO A TALENT RAIL TO SHOW PEOPLE WHAT SHE IS CAPABLE OF CREATING BUT THERE IS PLENTY OF ART HERE TO BUY FOR YOUR WALLS IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT TONIGHT, THE SHOW IS OUT UNTIL MARCH 29. LIVE IN DENVER, TORI MASON COVERING COLORADO FIRST. THANKS.
