Taraji's Artistic Inspiration: Who Inspired You To Be An Artist? | Season 5 | EMPIRE

– You know, when there weren't a lot of
examples that looked like me. Who inspired me to
become an artist? I would have to say
it was Debbie Allen. I just remember when I started
following in her footsteps. I went to Howard
University, and the older professors started saying
that I reminded them of her. And she had a scholarship,
the Andrew Allen Scholarship. And I was six months
pregnant, and I needed money to finish school. And I auditioned, and
I won that scholarship. And then I move out to LA,
and I've worked with her. She's played my mother on
my first television series, and she's directed me on
Empire, and as life full circle. So she really did have a lot to
do with me going into the arts. That's crazy.
